UIW Launches First Virtual College Prep High School
The University of the Incarnate Word presents a new and unique high school experience for your child, UIW Prep, a virtual high school experience for students looking for a challenging curriculum in an online environment. UIW Prep is a faith-based online high school emphasizing preparatory and dual credit coursework.
UIW Prep is a great option for the college prep student looking for a challenging curriculum allowing them to graduate in less than 3 years and with up to 30 hours of college credit completed. It’s also the perfect choice for students who may want to supplement their home school or traditional classroom studies. UIW Prep is cost effective.
There are no administrative fees and online books and tools are all included in the tuition. Plus, one of the most important benefits is the priority admission to UIW and the scholarships available to UIW Prep students ($3,000 per year for four years at UIW in addition to other merit scholarships).
The program offers personal advisors to serve each student individually and is taught by university-credentialed faculty. UIW Prep is an ideal situation for home schooled students, students in military families, international students or those students who thrive in an accelerated program. Students can begin as early as eighth grade.
Campus life is an important part of UIW Prep but you won’t need a building to experience it. You’ll find a preparatory program designed to prepare students online for a successful college experience. With Second Life, you can visit our school virtually and meet friends from UIW Prep, your teachers and other teens in the Teen Grid. As a UIW Prep student you will have optional access to Brainpower Island where a virtual campus allows you to interact and learn. iTunesU is another option available to our students. Your teachers can upload class material and you can listen or watch them to supplement your class material. At UIW, we believe in using technology to assist with learning so you'll see us utilize various different options throughout the curriculum.
“The University of the Incarnate Word is proud to continue as a leader in innovative educational opportunities with the introduction of UIW Prep. UIW Prep fulfills a need for an online preparatory high school with the same highly credentialed faculty, quality curriculum, and cutting edge technology associated with UIW,” said Dr. Cyndi Wilson Porter, UIW Vice President for Extended Academic Programs.
